National Institute of Design at Graduate Diploma Programme in Design & Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Design

Applications  are invited for the following Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) and Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Design (PGDPD) at Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Bengaluru Campuses for 2014 session at National Institute of Design (NID):

Eligibility for Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD):

  • Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalents like AISSCE/ IB/ ISC during academic year 2013-14.
  • Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved category) as on 1st June 2014. For General Category, the candidates born before 1st June 1994 are not eligible. For Reserved Category, the candidates born before 1st June 1991 are not eligible.
  • Successful candidates shall be given admission to the academic programme, by the institute, subject to their passing the qualifying examinations. The medium of instruction at NID is English.
  • Allotment of discipline of the choice at the end of Foundation year is Not guaranteed. Discipline allotment takes place only at the end of the first year, based purely on students’ performance in the Foundation Programme and the number of seats available in desired discipline.

Eligibility Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (PGDPD)

  • Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent including those who will be appearing for the qualifying examinations during the academic year (2012-13) in the areas mentioned against each discipline are eligible to apply. Successful candidates shall be given admission to the academic programme, by the institute, subject to their passing the qualifying examinations. Those applying for two programmes should send separate application forms along with two separate sets of documents for each programme. One cannot apply for more than two PG Programmes. The medium of instruction at NID is English.
  • Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved categories) as on June 1st, 2014.
  • For General Category: The candidates born before 1st June 1984 are not eligible.
  • For Reserved Category: The candidates born before 1st June 1981 are not eligible.

Eligibility for Programmes offered at main campus, Ahmedabad

  • Product Design: Degree in Design, Engineering / Technology or Architecture, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • Furniture & Interior Design: Degree in Design / Engineering / Technology or Architecture, or Diploma in Interior Design or Craft Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • Ceramic & Glass Design: Degree in Design / Fine Arts / Engineering / Technology / Architecture or Interior Design, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • Graphic Design: Degree in any discipline, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • Animation Film Design: Degree in any discipline, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • Film & Video Communication: Degree in any discipline, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • Textile Design: Degree in Design / Textiles / Fashion / Accessory / Knitwear / Interior / Fine Arts or Architecture, OR Diploma in Handloom Technology / Textile Technology (under 10+2+3yr/4yr)

Eligibility for Programmes Offered At PG Campus, Gandhinagar

  • Transportation & Automobile Design: Degree in Industrial Design / Engineering / Technology / Architecture or Interior Design, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • Toy & Game Design: Degree in any discipline, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • Photography Design: Degree in any discipline, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • Apparel Design: Degree in Design (Textiles/Fashion/Accessory/ Knitwear/Interior) / Engineering / Technology / Fine Arts or Architecture, or Diploma in Handloom Technology / Textile Technology (under 10+2+3yr/4yr)
  • Lifestyle Accessory Design: Degree in Design / Engineering / Technology / Architecture or Fine Arts, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • New Media Design: Degree in Design, Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Fine Arts, Music, Computer Science and Applications, Electronics or Visual Communications, OR Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • Strategic Design Management: Degree in Design / Engineering / Technology / Fine Arts / Architecture / Interior Design or Planning, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)

Eligibility for Programmes offered at R&D Campus, Bengaluru

  • Information Design : Degree in Design / Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Fine Arts / Music / Computer Science / Electronics or Visual Communications, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • Interaction Design: Degree in Design / Engineering / Technology / Architecture or Fine Arts, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)
  • Design for Retail Experience: Degree in any discipline, or Diploma in Design (under 10+2+4yr)

How to apply:

  • Application Forms can be downloaded from NID website and printed and sent along with a Demand Draft of Rs. 1500 [For General Category] and Rs 750 [for Reserved Categories (SC/ST/OBC/PH)] drawn on any bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad along with the relevant documents to National Institute of Design, Paldi, Ahmedabad, 380007 Gujarat, India. Those applying for two postgraduate disciplines must send two separate application forms along with two separate sets of relevant documents and demand drafts.
  • Hall Ticket: Hall Ticket/ Call Letter will be posted by December 9th, 2013.

Overseas Candidates
Overseas candidates applying for admission into Graduate Diploma Programme in Design/ Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Design should send their application along with other applicants in India by November 2nd, 2013. Such students may attend admission test and interview at Ahmedabad. 15 per cent seats in Graduate Diploma Programme in Design/ Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in Design are reserved for applicants from foreign countries/ SAARC region/ NRIs on supernumerary basis.

They should fill in the prescribed application form and send the same with their portfolio (portfolio is mandatory for PGDPD applicants, while for GDPD applicants it is optional) to Admissions Office, NID on or before November 2nd, 2013. Procedure for applying under foreign nationals / SAARC / NRI category:

Candidates seeking admission under this category should apply in the prescribed Application Form which should be duly filled in and accompanied by the following documents:

  • An attested copy of the relevant pages of the passport containing details of the applicant.
  • An attested copy of proof of status of NRI/ SAARC/ foreign national. (A certificate from Indian Embassy of your country should be submitted. It should clearly indicate parents’ profession and employment details.)
  • A Demand Draft of US $ 30 in favour of National Institute of Design, payable at Ahmedabad.
  • Candidates holding OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) or PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) status are not eligible to apply.
  • Only those candidates who have studied their 10th standard and studied/ studying 12th standard outside India are presently staying abroad are eligible to apply under this category,
  • Relevant GDPD/ PGDPD Hall Ticket (both copies) duly filled in with recent photographs.
  • For GDPD candidates: Attested copies of mark sheets of equivalent grades/ levels of SSC and HSC (those who are studying presently in HSC, must submit bonafide certificate from school/ college).
  • For PGDPD candidates: Attested copies of mark sheets of equivalent grades/ levels of SSC, HSC, completed years of graduation and degree certificate/ provisional certificate/ passing certificate (those who are studying in final year of graduation must submit bonafide certificate from the college).
  • Attested copies of experience certificate/s, wherever applicable.
  • The application form should contain the address of your place of residence (your address of the country in which you are staying at the time of application). In the hall tickets, you are free to give any convenient address(India/Abroad)
  • In case Degree/Certificate has been obtained from some University/Board of any other country then an equivalence certificate must be obtained from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, prior to admission.

Important dates:

  • Last date for receiving completed application forms at NID: November 2nd 2013.
  • Design Aptitude Test for PGDPD: January 11th 2014
  • Design Aptitude Test for GDPD: 12th January 2014
